As the summer draws to a close and the first day of school approaches there are many changes as we transition to another school year. Back to school is a time to get back into a routine. We all experience busier schedules, helping with homework, transporting to and from sports and activities and managing the early morning rush to get out the door. I like to look at the start of school as a time to settle in again. Kids (and adults) thrive on schedules. Simple things like consistent bed and wake up times, and eating on a more regular schedule can be helpful. Our bodies like balance and the school schedule can provide that if you work with it. Recently I had the opportunity to see a very powerful movie called “Food Inc.” The movie was directed by Robert Kenner and was based on the book entitled “The Omnivore’s Dilemma“, which was written by Michael Pollan.
I chose to write about my experience with this eye opening film due to the profound impact it has had on me and my family. I talked about seeing this film over the summer and felt somewhat like a detective tracking when and where it was playing through the films website. It was only playing in select theaters and for a very brief period of time. I finally caught up with at the Strand Theater in Clinton on a Sunday afternoon, and opted to bring along my two children who were ages 14 and 12 at the time.
